Yellowstone in a Day

The bison calf teetered on spindly legs as his mother nudged him away from the road. The herd calmly munched in the meadow. One large bull slowly rose to his feet, dwarfing the small Honda Civic that had stopped in the road for the photo op.

Once again we packed too much into the day, visiting Artist Paintpots, Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Falls, Old Faithful, Black Sands Geyser Basin, Midway Geyser Basin, and many more sights in one short day. We even managed to find more ice cream at the Old Faithful Inn. We all agreed: the huckleberry ice cream was delicious!

Spits of rain did not dampen our spirits. We bathed in the sauna-like clouds of warm steam that rose from the bubbling geothermal pools, counteracting the biting wind. Back at the campground, a steady, driving rain had completely saturated the ground. Large pools of standing water were everywhere, even in our fire ring!
