Colorado!

We've arrived in Colorado, and are now camped at Deer Lakes Campground in the mountains above Lake City, ready to start our adventure. We've already seen more than twenty deer and a few elk. Then as we were driving toward our campsite, a cantankerous moose charged our truck (fuzzy picture below, better picture to come). When we reached the campground a sign warned us that moose can be aggressive and that if one charges you "run as fast as you can!"

The mountains look snowy, and the rivers and creeks are running high and fast. We'll be carrying snowshoes, microspikes, ice axes, rope, and full length gaiters on this section. Several friends who are hiking the CDT have already flipped up to Wyoming hoping for dry trail. We'll reassess after we try this section, but for now, bring on the snow!
